Screen printing

My focus for this semester’s screen printing project will be based around eco-friendly fashion exploring the theme in as many ways as possible.
My target market will be fashionable women, clients in their late 20’s – 30’s, who want more from their clothing with money to spend. The clothing range will available in boutiques or pop-up shops in department stores. My price range for the clothing would be at the top end of the high street but not designer prices.
To keep the project eco-friendly, I want to use sustainable fabrics such as organic cotton, hemp, recycled polyester or even recycled fabric bought in second hand shops. Natural dyes and techniques could be incorporated into the theme as well as a zero waste policy.
My prints should also represent the eco-friendly feel, taking references from the forest. This would include leaves, woodland, tree trunks, stones, dirt etc. I want the project to be youthful, so I will be avoiding flowers or any images too obvious. I plan to use my own hand drawn illustrations mixed, with Photoshop to keep the imagery organic. Using the forest will keep the project inline with current trends and the Autumn/Winter season. Colours will be dark and taken from first hand observations.
Inspiration

26th Street between 7th and 8th is flower avenue where the streets are lined with flower shops, its almost like walking through a jungle.

Initial Drawings

I will now use photoshop to manipulate these images into a pattern.

I also experimented with bark rubbings to try and make a print out of the texture.
